Summary

JOB SUMMARY: Provides Child Life services to pediatric patients. These services include distraction and calming measures to ease anxiety and engender cooperation with invasive procedures. Provides interventions based on each child's development, age, and unique needs to minimize potential stress and trauma. The child life specialist will provide developmentally appropriate interventions including therapeutic play, preparation and education to reduce fear, anxiety and pain for children and youth in an outpatient and inpatient setting. The child life specialist will meet the psychosocial needs of children and youth by providing emotional support and by creating therapeutic opportunities for optimal growth and development in the hospital.

*This is a FT position within the ED that will have a rotating schedule working every other weekend and shift time of 11:00am - 9:30pm.*

REQUIREMENTS: 

Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Child Life, Child Development, Child Psychology or related field; Master’s degree preferred

600-hour Child Life Internship under supervision of a certified child life specialist

Child Life Certification – or certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.

At least one year of experience in a hospital Child Life program is preferred but not required
