About Us:

Americas major classical station KUSC, Los Angeles, and KDFC in San Francisco are hiring for a Classical Music Producer who can program classical music for radio and on-demand streams. This is an opportunity to work with the countrys most dynamic and successful classical stations.

Our goal is to nurture a love of classical music for all, and we have an ambitious growth plan, including new on-air, online, and in-person engagement, to help achieve it.

Classical California is the largest classical music public media service in the U.S. It includes two major classical stations. KUSC is located in downtown Los Angeles and serves communities throughout Southern California. KDFC is located in downtown San Francisco, serving the Bay area and other communities in Northern California. The stations are licensed to the University of Southern California, one of the leading research universities in the nation, with a respected commitment to classical music, arts, and the community.

Job Overview:

Reporting directly to the Vice President of Content, the Classical Music Producer will play a pivotal role within Classical Californias Content Production team. The primary focus of this position is to curate and program classical music for KUSC and KDFC radio stations, as well as our on-demand streams.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Curate and program classical music for KUSC and KDFC radio stations.

  • Manage and update classical music playlists for Classical California's online streams.

  • Ensure adherence to Classical Californias programming philosophy and guidelines.

  • Collaborate with fellow music programmers to maintain programming consistency and continuity.

  • Conceptualize, develop, coordinate, and produce content segments, initiatives, and promotions.

  • Plan, organize, and execute music-related programming content on radio.

  • Work with and direct on-air talent.

  • Oversee programming content editing and mixing.

  • Collaborate with digital and social media team to create content for approved initiatives.

  • Supervise music programming resource employees.

  • Plan, select, and coordinate production resource requirements, including creative contributors, materials, and facilities.

  • Build and maintain relationships with all Classical California teams and departments.

  • Participate in editorial, membership, and community outreach initiatives.

  • Represent the station at events as assigned.

  • Engage with the audience in a respectful and effective manner.

  • Stay updated on industry standards, best practices, and emerging technologies.

  • Promote an environment that fosters inclusive relationships and creates unbiased opportunities for contributions through ideas, words, and actions that uphold the principles of the USC Code of Ethics.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in MusicMaster or similar music programming automation software.

  • Familiarity with Zetta or equivalent music scheduling software.

  • In-depth knowledge of classical music history, eras, genres, and styles.

  • Thorough knowledge of classical music recordings.

  • Thorough knowledge of current classical music news, trends, and styles.

  • Understanding of how programming influences audience engagement.

  • Strong attention to detail in working with classical music metadata.

  • Demonstrated experience in audio content production for radio and digital platforms.

  • Proven ability to self-manage, prioritize work assignments, and manage multiple deadlines.

  • Capable of creating radio features, audio segments, and promotions.

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelors Degree or combined experience/education as a substitute for minimum education

Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in broadcasting, content production, or a related field. Combined experience/education as a substitute for minimum work experience.

This position's annual base salary range is $93,000-100,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidates work experience, education/training, essential skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
