The role of Business Development is to acquire new Pharmacovigilance business, guide overall strategy, and contribute to board discussions for growth and expansion. The Director, Business Development will be responsible for strategy and client retention within an assigned sales territory or accounts.

The Director will collaborate with the Business Development team and Functional Managers to build strong, long-term relationships with key decision-makers in the life sciences sector. The ability to discuss service solutions with scientific rigor and target new clients is essential.

Role and Responsibilities

  1. Develop strategic plans and sales strategies within a specified region.
  2. Achieve annual sales goals and objectives for the region.
  3. Lead the team to identify new business opportunities and coordinate responses to RFIs and RFPs.
  4. Establish and maintain excellent relationships with current and prospective clients.
  5. Prepare and deliver sponsor presentations, including bid defense meetings.
  6. Gather critical information for proposal preparation and support the team in understanding RFI/RFP processes.
  7. Monitor competitor PV activities.
  8. Attend major industry events and tradeshows as per the budget.
  9. Research and identify new markets and sales opportunities within the territory or accounts.
  10. Manage activities aimed at client development and retention.
  11. Analyze and report regional business development data to senior management.
  12. Support the VP with strategic input and leadership.
  13. Promote open communication within the department and organization.

Education

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required; Master’s, PhD, or MBA preferred.

Experience

  • PV sales experience with stakeholder influence and management.
  • Knowledge of PV industry.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM systems.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical, planning, and organizational abilities.
  • Effective presentation skills and ability to convincingly communicate service benefits.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
