Foreign credentials must be evaluated for US equivalency ( Class Description A Network Engineer designs, installs, troubleshoots, and monitors network communication systems in a city agency. This role involves no supervisory duties. Work is performed in an office environment, with on-call responsibilities 24/7. Selection Process Only classified city employees who meet minimum qualifications and have completed probation are eligible. Candidates will be evaluated based on their applications. Accurate and complete information is essential. Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Experience: Four years in designing, installing, monitoring, and troubleshooting large network systems. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certificates: Certified Novell Engineer (CNE), Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), or Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP). Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of current network communication trends and protocols. Knowledge of personal computer systems (DOS, Windows XP, Vista, 7, Novell OS 3.X & 5.X, Linux). Skills in installing, repairing, and troubleshooting network hardware and software. Ability to perform maintenance, diagnose, and repair network issues. Effective communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to establish effective working relationships with personnel and vendors. Ability to write detailed technical reports and analyses.
