General Description The purpose of this class within the organization is to perform a variety of journey level plumbing and related maintenance and repair work. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Requires two (2) years in maintenance plumbing or closely related experience. Special Certifications and Licenses Required Possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License with authority to drive a county vehicle for the duration of appointment. Preferences Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Graduation from an accredited Vocational School (Plumbing specialization). Back-flow Prevention Tester Certification. Back-flow Repair Certification. Experience working with Lift Stations. Class D Water and Wastewater License or higher. CDL A or B with Air Brake Endorsement. Commercial Irrigation Design Experience. Mechanical Journey Level/Certificate of Competency. Ability to speak foreign languages (Spanish, French/Creole). Additional Information All candidates must complete an extensive ten (10) year work history verification and criminal background check which includes post-offer physical examination, clearing of DCF's Affidavit of Good Moral Character ( AGMC.pdf). Ability to maintain authorization to operate a county vehicle/equipment. Job Responsibilities Inspects public restrooms to ensure fixtures are working properly and/or identifies non-working fixtures; replaces broken fixtures, valves, pumps, controllers, and/or irrigation heads to restore restroom, lift station, or irrigation system functionality. Troubleshoots non-working fixtures, valves, irrigation systems, and/or lift station pumps to identify the nature of the problem and type of repair needed. Inspects irrigation systems and lift stations to ensure pumps/systems are working properly and identifies non-working pumps/systems; repairs plumbing fixtures, valves, lift station/swimming pool pumps, and irrigation components to restore fixtures, valves, lift stations, water park features, and irrigation systems to proper working condition and minimize replacement costs. Performs routine maintenance on waste system lines, lift stations, and/or irrigation systems to ensure proper functioning. Cuts openings in walls for pipes; bends pipes over blocks by hand; cuts, reams, and threads pipe; digs trenches or holes with necessary equipment; installs, maintains, and repairs water circulation and irrigation systems, valves, faucets, traps, sinks, wash bowls, sewers, vents, and other sanitary fixtures. Installs and maintains PVC pipe systems by opening clogged drains with a plunger or other devices; replaces washers on leaky faucets; tests for leaks by filling pipe with water under pressure and checking with a gauge for fall pressure. Installs pipe and hose on spray trucks, and other specially designed equipment and apparatus. Repairs, replaces, and checks high and low pressure steam boilers; blows down and flushes boilers; checks all safety devices and controls, replacing and repairing when needed; flushes and cleans boilers, storage and return tanks, hot water heaters, and similar apparatus. Makes estimates of time and materials; supervises the work of helpers assisting in various phases of the work; interacts with the public to answer questions, identify service needs, or locate missing materials. Performs related work as assigned. Physical Demands Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, stretching, or lifting all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or exceptional skill, adeptness, and speed in the use of fingers, hands, or limbs in tasks involving very close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
