Program Summary

Maternity Care Coalition (MCC) believes in an equitable and just future for all families and is committed to challenging systems and structures that create barriers to equity. MCC's Community Doula and Lactation Program offers comprehensive trainings grounded in Reproductive and Racial Justice to community members; supports pregnant and parenting families by pairing them with trained a Perinatal Community Health Worker (PCHW); and offers various workshops and trainings for childbearing families and the birth worker community.

Position Summary

The Training Coordinator will work closely with the Program Manager to plan, coordinate and facilitate all aspects of our Community Based trainings and workshops and will provide support with other administrative and programmatic activities.

Essential Tasks

Training and Workshops – Organize/Responsible for all aspects of MCC’s 27 session Doula and Lactation Community Health Worker Training (DLCHW)

  • Coordinate outreach and recruitment for DLCHW trainings to community members, partner organizations and partner trainers.
  • Set schedules for all pre-training Information Sessions and DLCHW training series.
  • Organize logistics of trainings (virtual or in-person setting); location, child care, and all training materials and supplies.
  • Work with Program Manager and team to integrate guest facilitators, plan training session agendas and activities.
  • Maintain detailed records of all training participants, guest trainers, and activities.
  • Attend all training sessions as facilitator/co-facilitator.
  • Support the development and implementation of an evaluation plan for the project.
  • Support Program Manager to implement a training replication model, including making revisions and updates to Training Manual, Facilitator’s Guide and Train the Trainer manual.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of on-going Professional Development/Skills Building workshops for Community Doula and Lactation Peer Counselor Network.
  • Support training graduates with PCB (Perinatal Community-based) Doula Certification process.
  • Provide coaching/mentoring to graduates as needed.
  • Coordinates new doula orientation and training sessions for onboarding community doulas trained outside of MCC.
  • Coordinates and tracks all new requests from graduating PCHWS and community doulas for clearances and other required documentation.

General Program Support

  • Support Program Manager and team with various site/program specific activities and tasks as needed.
  • Support Program Manager with funder reports as needed.
  • Provide back-up support with coordination of doula referral/match process as needed.
  • Participate in team, site and one on one supervision meetings as requested.
  • Attend community meetings, health fairs and events, and represent MCC as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Willing and able to travel for training activities to the following counties: Philadelphia, Montgomery County, Bucks County, Delaware County, Chester County, and Berks County
  • Understanding of MCC’s mission, goals, and objectives and ability to work independently with a high level of energy and contribute as part of a larger team.
  • Knowledge of the concepts and practices associated with community health issues, particularly with pregnancy, prenatal care, parenting and other services for parents, young children, and their families.
  • Understanding of root causes of maternal and infant health disparities for communities of color and working knowledge of Reproductive and Racial Justice frameworks.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the issues facing the community served; knowledge of community resources.
  • Demonstrated group facilitation and leadership skills.
  • Excellent record keeping and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and excellent time management
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills (including data entry and management, word processing, use of virtual platforms such as Zoom, Teams).

Experience, Education, and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Social Work, Public Health or related field
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Trained as a Birth and Postpartum Doula.
  • Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC), International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) or willingness to attend a CLC training and pass the CLC exam within 1 year of hire.
  • At least 1 year demonstrated experience of teaching/facilitating group trainings and workshops, including on virtual meeting platforms.
