Web & Digital Content Manager at Inside Higher Ed Overview The Web & Digital Content Manager serves as the primary manager for Dartmouth Engineering’s website and digital communications channels, responsible for timely content updates and continuous improvements to promote engineering research, education, and innovation. The role collaborates with stakeholders to ensure accuracy, clarity, and accessibility across digital properties, coordinates and proofs on-brand copy and visual assets, and helps create new web pages, microsites, and newsletters. Responsibilities Website Content Management and Maintenance: be the first point of contact for web requests, build positive working relationships, and contribute to a collaborative team culture. Make timely content updates across Dartmouth Engineering’s website and related web properties, aligned with brand/editorial guidelines and optimized for SEO, accessibility, and user experience. Monitor quality, consistency, and accuracy of web copy, visual assets, and functionality; ensure up-to-date information and proper linking across properties. Proactively manage recurring content updates and routine maintenance. Build web pages, subsites, and microsites within content management systems to support faculty research, teaching activities, new programs, or initiatives. Consult with faculty on development of research, lab, and group websites; connect faculty to campus resources or external vendors as appropriate. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with interactive tools and integrations; collaborate with Computing Services to meet goals. Respond to critical web downtime issues as needed. Digital Communications Support : support e-newsletter production, maintain recipient lists, track open rates and engagement; optimize images and video for web; support social media and digital marketing activities. Emergency Communications : publish emergency information when needed, following established protocols. Support Best Practices : evaluate usability, accessibility, and audience issues; analyze website traffic and recommend improvements; maintain web process documentation; train colleagues on CMS and best practices. Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness; performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Qualifications – Education and Years of Experience: Bachelor’s degree plus 2–3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Required Qualifications – Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Minimum three years of professional experience in web design, digital communications, or related field. Proficiency with CMS platforms (e.g., Craft, WordPress), basic web languages, and office tools (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Zoom). Exceptional attention to detail in proofreading and editing. Strong written communication skills with ability to distill complex topics for digital platforms. Strong aesthetic sense for digital layout, photo selection, and cropping; good judgement in visual decisions. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills; ability to connect disparate pieces across the digital ecosystem. Highly organized, solutions-oriented, capable of independent and collaborative work across in-person and remote teams. Collaborative team player, open to feedback, and willing to learn new tools. Familiarity with SEO, digital accessibility, UX, and web content strategy best practices. Commitment to building an inclusive workplace and learning environment. Ability to work occasional nights and weekends as needed. Preferred Qualifications : Experience in higher education; familiarity with web analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics); experience with email tools (e.g., CampaignMonitor, MailChimp, ConstantContact); familiarity with Jekyll, LightWidget, SociableKIT, or similar tools.
